{ about us }
Beehive Productions was formed in 1996 by partners Jeff Oehler and Susan Bibeau while both were working for EMI/Capitol Music in New York City.
Jeff Oehler began recording music as a teenager with a cheap fostex mixer in a small, home-made recording room in his basement. He went on to study jazz at Berklee School of Music in Boston, and the New School College of Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York.
During his time in New York he had exposure to the inside world of major labels while working for EMI Records.
He quickly became disenchanted with the realities of the corporate music scene and grew determined to devote himself to the support and development of independent artists.
Susan Bibeau graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD where she studied illustration, design and photography.
Before forming Beehive Productions, she worked as a graphic designer/art director for EMI Records and Universal Music Group. She has worked on projects for artists of all musical genre, including, Blondie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, George Thorogood, Erykah Badu, David Bowie, Billy Idol and even Barney the Dinosaur! :)
In the mid-to-late-90’s the development of internet streaming and hard-disk recording was just beginning to take root. Technology served to enable piracy, but also gave rise to home recording and boutique studios and also enabled artists to sell, or give away their product to fans directly. Ultimately, this devastated the corporate music world.
After more than a decade of music industry blight and chaos among newly self-empowered independents, the new music industry is now emerging. The landscape has changed dramatically and has become far more entrepreneurial in nature. With new systems in place to support independents, production, distribution, marketing and social-networking opportunities abound.
Our goal has been to actively participate in this new music revolution as passionately and creatively as we can.
