Bill Morrissey Tribute Concert
This past week we traveled to Boston to record a Tribute concert to the late, great, Bill Morrissey. The show, held in the beautiful Sommerville theater, was recorded for Folk Alley as part of their "live from" concert series. We will post a link when the stream is available.
Morrissey was a gifted and prolific songwriting talent who came from the northeast but whose musical influence stretched across genre and generation. That he was well loved and respected among his peers, many of them incredible talents in their own right, was readily apparent on this evening of rememberance and celebration.

Soundcheck with Patty Larkin on stage (Jeff O. is the man behind the curtain.)
Among the group giving tribute were Patty Larkin, John Gorka, Mark Erelli, Peter Case, Anais Mitchell, Shawn Colvin, Cormac McCarthy and David Johansen. All of whom shared stories of how his songwriting had helped shape and influence thier own. The fact that many if not all of these people had either performed or written with Morrissey and that he considered all of them close friends made for an incredible evening that was both poignant and at times rollicking fun. Picture a big, musical, irish wake.
One of the most touching moments for me was looking down and seeing Morrissey's elderly mother in the audience quietly singing along with David Johansen to one of her late son's songs.
Morrissey would have turned 60 on November 25th. He will be greatly missed.

The Folk Alley RV! Photo by Susan Bibeau
Newport Folk Festival 2011
This was the second year in-a-row that we recorded and mixed the live broadcast of the Newport Folk Festival for Folk Alley and NPR Music. We not only had the pleasure of working with the Folk Alley crew, but we got to work from their amazing RV and remote studio. Pretty cool!
Our stage featured an amazing line-up including, The Civil Wars, Typhoon, Brown Bird, Chris Thile and Michael Daves, The Head and The Heart, and Pokey LaFarge. We'll be posting audio samples in the near future, stay tuned, or you can listen to the archived sets at NPR Music.
In the mean-time, you can check out our photos here.
One of the highlights was seeing our friends The David Wax Museum rock the Main Stage!
