This model was custom designed for Beehive Productions. In 2013 we got together with John Peluso and Chris Newitt to design a custom variation of the 22 251. We asked for a single bodied microphone with two channels that could function as a phase coherent XY capture of a singer/instrumentalist (front address for voice / side address for instrument).  The result is what Peluso is calling the MSC — or Mid-Sides Custom.

The MSC is like having a matched pair that can be easily manipulated to find the sweet spot between voice and instrument for a singer/songwriter — on a single mic stand, with a single cable and power supply.  The result is simplicity and grace!  While the side address is the stock version with selectable polar patterns—( 9 polar patterns in an array from omni-directional to cardioid to figure eight)—the added front address capsule is fixed cardioid.  This design also makes the MSC perfect for conventional mid-sides recording in a single housing.

Peluso has now made several MSC 22-251 microphones for interested engineers and an MSC variation of other models can be considered on request.  The pricing for an MSC build is 1.5x the stock version of the mic — substantially less than the cost of a matched pair!  Contact us for more info.

The MSC 22 251 is paired with the Peluso MX-56 power supply.

The MSC 22 251 features our heavy-duty 8-pin screw on cable connector. The large diameter pins in the screw on connector give a tight and secure cable connection designed to perform for a lifetime of use.

Microphone kit comes as a complete system including: MSC 22 251 Microphone in a Wood Box, MX-56 Power Supply, New-style 8-Pin Screw on Cable Assembly, and a Shock Mount all packed in a Flight Case.

All Peluso Microphones are covered by a Three Year Limited Warranty.

The Peluso 22 251 Tube Microphone is styled after the legendary vintage ELA M 251. Produced for Telefunken GmbH by AKG from 1960 to 1965, the ELA M 251 remains one of the rarest and most coveted of vintage microphones. While the 251 did not evolve very far from the C 12 there are a few key differences. They both employ a double-sided 34mm dual-backplate, edge-terminated gold-coated Mylar capsule and a 6072A glass triode tube. They both employ the T/14 output transformer. The circuitry differs in the way the tube grid and cathode are handled. This gives the 22 251 about 7 dB more gain than the P-12. Additionally, the head grille of the 251 is a little larger than the 12, altering the frequency response. Whether you choose the 22 251 or the P-12 you will have a microphone with the clarity, openness and top-end 'air' from these vintage legends!
